By 1911 his parents were at Carrickmaclin, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan

Mellefont, Thomas Gray
Youngest son of Robert and Susan Mellefont née Gilbert. His Father, born in Carne, Co. Wexford was station officer in the Coast Guard. 1901 census shows family living in Riverchapel. Thomas enlisted before the War in Jan 1912. His brother Gilbert served with the Royal Navy and survived the War. Thomas is commemorated on a memorial in the former Mariners Church, Dun Laoghaire which is now a museum.

Children present were Adelaide (28), John (23), Francis (16) and Norman (12). Widow at 9 Holdsworth Street, Pennycomequick, Plymouth. Body not recovered for burial. Appears on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.

The son of Thomas and Margaret Carroll nee Howlin, Ballyconigar, Blackwater, Co. Wexford. His father was a farmer. Married Nellie Clogher at Queen's, New York, 13 September 1918. He was a medical student when he was drafted into the US Army in 1918. He was aboard the troopship HMS Otranto on the way to Britain when his vessel collided with HMS Kashmir during a severe storm near Islay, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. Buried at Kilchoman Cemetery, Islay. Re-interred at Queen's Cemetery, New York.

Children were Lawrence (3), Helena Irene (2) and Reginald George (4 months). Mother: Adele Eden resided at 4 South View Villas, Bournemouth Road, Parkstone, Dorset in 1919.

Awarded the Military Medal (AIF routine order No 16 dated 9th April 1918 and promoted to Sergeant) and is listed in the Commonwealth Gazette No 175 dated 7th November 1918.
Originally buried by the Rev, T.A. Campbell at Verloy. Re-interred 6 miles due north of Lillers 13-08-1918 in Thiemmes Military Cemetery.
