Son of John and Mary Ann Shannon nee O'Shea. His father was a coffin maker who died while Peter was a young child. In 1888 his mother emigrated to Australia with her four children. Peter worked as a sheep shearer at Merriwa, New South Wales, and enlisted 13 August 1915. He was posted to the 53rd Infantry Battalion in Egypt about February 1916. Moved to France 28 June 1916. Brother of John Joseph Shannon, c/o Mr Marshall, Farm No 732 Leeton, Via Yanco. His body was discovered in 2009 but not identified until 2019.

Patrick was living in Ballyrorey, County Wexford at the time of his death. Commemorated on panel 33, Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belguim.

Son of Richard Cherry Sikes and Susanna Lecky Sikes 2 Parkview Wellington Rd. Cork. In 1914 he joined the Royal Fusiliers and spent a winter in the trenches. He was transferred to the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and was in command of a company in the Howe Battalion. Sub Lieutenant Richard Herbert Sikes is remembered on the Arras Memorial in France and the War Memorial in St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral in Cork. Buried at Bay 1. Arras Memorial, Department du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.

James Smith and Anastatia Saunders were married in Wexford where they had three children. They left Wexford for Liverpool around 1882, where their son Michael was born. They returned to Wexford around 1885. James was born in 1890.
His Battalion was part of 87 Brigade, 29th Division that attacked Beaumont Hamel 01/07/1916. This is likely when James was wounded in the head by a shell. He was evacuated to Sunderland Infirmary where his sister Bridget took care of him until he died 29/07/1916.
James is buried alongside his brother , Michael in Ford cemetery, Liverpool.

James Smith and Anastatia Saunders were married in Wexford where they had three children. They left Wexford for Liverpool around 1882, where Michael was born. They returned to Wexford around 1885.
The 1911 Census shows the family at living in the Faythe.
Michael was husband to Mary Elizabeth Smyth née Finnegan of 73 New Hedley Street, Boundary Street, Liverpool. They married in Liverpool in 1906. (Name spelt Smyth.) He was an able seaman aboard the “HMS Wallington” when he died in the Naval hospital in Southampton 04/11/1917. HMS Wallington was the Auxiliary Patrol base at Immingham from 6/11/1915. (It was a depot ship on the River Humber, with the work and administration being done in the Old Custom House, Grimsby and berthed at Immingham.)
Michael is buried in Ford (Roman Catholic) Cemetery in Liverpool.
His brother James served with 1st Battalion Inniskilling Fusiliers. No: 12504.
